Some communication is meant to change your mind. This is called junk mail. Even when it comes from the government. Other communication appears to be meant to keep you safe. Even from the government. Really, though, it is meant to protect someone else from your lawyers, who you haven’t even hired yet. This is a form of cultural safe sex. In contemporary Canadian culture, messages like this form doorways. They provide your first impression of most businesses. This is called literacy. One thing is true. Doors are publication spaces with special significance. Are you still publishing your poems in books? Why? Are your poems doors? How? (Hint: if they are, there will be other poems stuck to them. Plus a lot of governmental and legal junk.)
