The City of Kelowna hires a man to go around in the early morning to paint over the signatures the streets’ vernacular owners spray paint on walls the night before.
He missed a spot. And that reveals his work as graffiti, too. Monocolour graffiti. The window is graffiti, too, for that matter: just image how it might possibly open with that arrangement of hardware. No, it’s there to represent a window. It’s the gesture of the world of windows, an illusion of identity and an identity of illusion. Rembrandt couldn’t have pulled this off. Heck, Andy Warhol couldn’t have pulled this off.
