Some forms of steam punk are mysterious and wild. Here’s a gull decoy that is not luring gulls, a bird house into which no gull could fit, bricks trying to be rocks (or rocks trying to be bricks?) and a whiskey barrel planter growing wooden flowers like antlers. The goal here is not to celebrate life but to catch it. It is a very honest installation, in a small town (Conconully, Washington) way off to the side of the world, where people go to recover from old wars — a primary role for U.S. small towns today.
